Michelle Beveridge has begun her new role as general manager operations for Open Universities Australia (OUA).
The position combines CIO and business manager responsibilities – a sign, Beveridge says, that businesses are recognising the CIO is a core role and are prepared to lift its responsibilities. The move comes as OUA reports an increase in growth of 30 per cent per year over the past five years.
OUA chief executive officer, Stuart Hamilton, said Beveridge was chosen for her ICT expertise and leadership qualities.
“We are delighted that Michelle has joined the team. Her Information and Communications Technology (ICT) expertise, strategic leadership and education experience provide the specialisation required to help manage our continued growth,” Hamilton said.
Michelle held the position of CIO at IDP Education prior to the appointment and also holds the position of chairwoman of the Victoria ICT for Women Network.
Beveridge spoke with CIO earlier this year about the need for more women to take up management roles in the IT industry.
