In his presentation at the CIO Perspectives event in November 2015, Link Alander, Vice Chancellor and CIO for the Lone Star College System, provided attendees with a behind-the-scenes look at predictive analytics and how it can help drive business action.
About 22 members of Lone Star’s 200-person IT staff are now devoted to data analytics work, Alander says. The focus on data analytics has resulted in a cloud-based enrollment management dashboard that lets business users “zero in on everything from headcount to key metrics,” he added.
While many companies have dashboards, scorecards and other data drill-down tools, Alander says that it’s likely that the data is not unlocked so people can take action.
“This new platform and the rollout of this platform – I don’t care what industry you’re in,” Alander said. “If you can provide that information down to the level that engages with the customer – in our case, the student – you make a change, you transform each piece of that.”
