Which state is leading the nation in iPad sales and which boasts the most laptops? Hint: California is the wrong answer to both questions. Read on for a look at where consumers are leading the gadget charge and where they're hanging back.

The Big Apple

If the iPad can make it in New York, it can make it anywhere! Apple has been racking up iPad sales in the Big Apple and the rest of the state of New York faster than a C.C. Sabathia fastball. It’s no wonder the whiz media device invented by Wall Street darling Apple has found a home in the glitziest state in the union. New York State has 52 percent more households with at least one iPad compared to the rest of the nation, according to Retrevo, a shopping and review site for consumer electronics.

Laptops in the Colorado Rockies

Who says technology and the great outdoors don’t go together? Aside from high altitude, Colorado rock climbers, skiers and hikers share one thing in common: the venerable laptop. Thirteen percent more Colorado households have at least one laptop more than the national average, according to Retrevo. Power outlets in the Colorado Rockies, however, are hard to come by. (Georgia and Minnesota are also big on laptops.)
