Microsoft SVP of IT Announces His Retirement

 Plus: Southwest Airlines Promotes Two IT Executives

Microsoft CIO Ron Markezich is losing his boss. eWeek Channel Insider reported yesterday that Rick Devenuti (at left), Microsoft’s SVP of enterprise services and IT, is retiring from the company. The 48-year-old executive wants to spend more time with his family and plan his next career move, according to eWeek.  CIO got Devenuti to dish about his job in a Q&A in 2003.  And here’s an earlier Movers & Shakers announcement about Devenuti.

Bob Jordan and Jan Marshall are feeling the love at Southwest Airlines. The two IT executives were recently promoted.  Jordon was named EVP of strategy, procurement and technology, while Marshall went from chief development officer to VP of technology and CIO.  Marshall reports to Jordan, and Jordan reports to  Southwest CEO Gary Kelly.  Jordan, who began his 18-year-tenure with company as a programmer analyst, most recently served as SVP of enterprise spend management. 

Newell Rubbermaid today announced a reorganization that at first blush looks like it’s going to be good for its CIO, Gordon Steele.  As part of the reorg, Steele will report to Newell Rubbermaid President and CEO Mark Ketchum. Previously, Steele reported to the CFO, Pat Robinson.  Steele joined the Atlanta-based company in 2005 from Nike.
