You can already view and edit Microsoft PowerPoint slides and presentations on your BlackBerry smartphone–assuming you’re using an application suite like DataViz’s Docs to Go or eOffice from Quickoffice–but soon you’ll be able to send PowerPoint slides to a projector or display directly from your handheld, eliminating the need for a separate computer during presentations.
Very few details are available on the upcoming “BlackBerry Presentation Viewer,” which was mentioned by Mike Lazaridis during his keynote address today at Research In Motion’s (RIM) Wireless Enterprise Symposium (WES). However, Lazaridis did state the app would allow PowerPoint users to do away with their laptops when presenting.
Such a product could be immensely value to businesspeople who present frequently and have no real need for a laptop except to store and transmit their slideshows.
No timeframe for release has been announced as of yet, but I look forward to giving it a go.
