CIO.com's BlackBerry black belt Al Sacco shares his hands-on first impressions of the BlackBerry Torch 9800 slider.

This morning, BlackBerry-maker Research In Motion (RIM) and wireless carrier AT&T announced the brand new BlackBerry Torch 9800 slider smartphone.

The device, which will become available in the United States on August 12 for $199.99 with a new, two-year AT&T service contract, is RIM’s first BlackBerry with both a touch screen and a traditional QWERTY BlackBerry keyboard.

The Torch is also the first BlackBerry to ship with RIM’s latest mobile OS, BlackBerry 6. And it’s named after the company who built the foundation for RIM’s new Webkit browser, Torch Mobile, which was acquired by RIM last year.

I’ll write up an in-depth review of the Torch slider as soon as I can spend some more time with an evaluation unit, but what follows are my hands-on first impressions in video form.
